First Generation Squirrels in Sybille Canyon
A rousing Sybille Canyon welcome to at least one baby squirrel at Hard Rock Ranch! S/he was spotted this morning, violating the "only one mammal allowed on a bird feeder" Squirrel Rule. S/he scurried up the feeder and was soundly trounced by one of the adults who was there first.
So who's yer Daddy? Either Grendl or Grenoble is mis-aptly named, unless there's something we don't know about Sybille Squirrels. Any suggestions for a name for the young'n? Eyes are open for Squirrel Siblings as well.
We should also thank Donna and Jim K., who we believe introduced the first squirrel to Sybille Canyon. A few years back, when they sold their house in Laramie, they trapped a squirrel and brought it out here to their new home down the road. S/he moved from their place to Hard Rock Ranch where s/he earned the name "Grendl" after the Beowulf Dragon. It's short for "Gren-delinquent; s/he has created a wonderful home, and has been terrorizing things with wings for a few years.
Squirrels weren't "natural" to Sybille Canyon, but it looks like they are now. The unofficial war against squirrels is over...if it ever really existed at all.
